What does it mean to be a Christian Fighter?
It’s not for personal gain, notoriety, fame, or fortune. There is something inside a Christian Fighter that strives to be better. They feel the call to a challenge. They may have been training for years, practicing Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, Wrestling, Boxing, Kick Boxing, and/or many other forms of mixed martial arts. But at some point, they have the desire to dig deep and see what they are truly made of. Do they have the drive and determination to endure the grueling training that is required to be the best? Do they have the physical and mental toughness to go through continuous, full contact sparring until they are ready to puke? Do they have the drive to overcome injury and sickness throughout training, and not use it as an excuse to withdraw from the match?
It’s one thing to train and say that you are a mixed martial artist, but it’s all just fake until you have put it to the test. It’s like being a Jersey boy. You may be on the team and wear the jersey, but if you don’t get any playing time it means nothing. Getting into the Octagon and facing your fears is what separates an MMA “Jersey Boy” and a real fighter. The same can be said for Jiu Jitsu players, Kick Boxers, or any other martial arts discipline. If you’ve been given a particular belt, face your fears and register for a tournament. Win or lose, you have earned the right to that belt. The benefits are far more than just earning rights to a belt. You will have gained confidence, higher skill level, and the satisfaction of achievement and overcoming fears that is life transforming.
So what does this have to do with Christianity?... Everything. Consider this bible verse:
James 1:22
"But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves."
In the same manner that one can be a “Jersey Boy” in MMA, a Christian that only Hears the Word of God and does not do anything for the Kingdom is useless to God and is like a Christian Jersey Boy. What’s even worse and more concerning is Jesus' warning to Christian jersey boys:
Revelation 3:15-16
"I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish that you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of my mouth."
Luke 6:46-49
“But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say? Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them,
I will show you whom he is like: He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood
arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock. But he who heard and
did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately
it fell. And the ruin of that house was great.”
As Christian Fighters we must have that same drive and passion to love and serve the Lord Jesus Christ. We must fight to protect our families, not just from physical threats, but more importantly protect them from the evil world system that is trying to destroy our families and have our children believe the lie, that there is no God. The following verse sums up what it means to be a Christian Fighter! We must put on the whole armor of God:
Ephesians 6:10-18
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
If you are a Christian and reading this, I pray for Go’s blessings on your life and family, and that He would use you in mighty ways for His kingdom. If you are not a Christian, but are intrigued by what you are reading, the Lord is calling you and has been waiting patiently for you. He stands at the door waiting. All you have to do is knock and the door will be opened for you! Matthew 7:7 (paraphrased).
Blessings to you Christian brothers and sisters!
